What's Been Happening Since Tommy

After Tommy I went straight into rehearsals at Fort Bend Theatre for Robin Hood. The other actors have had 2 weekends of shows but my opening is this Friday as Robin Hood with only a few rehearsals.

Last weekend was contest weekend. I sang at Massa's Italian Restaurant Saturday night for the Italian Festival. Thanks to how nice everyone was and to the judges for giving their time. I moved forward in the top 3 in the 13 to 18 age group after singing Nella Fantasia. Now I'm trying to find another Italian song for the finals on Oct. 17. I also played piano and sang in a contest Sunday in The Heights. I got honorarable mention so got to play again that night for the recital. I learned there are some really talented piano players out there.

I also auditioned for a workshop at Stages Theatre for a potential new musical. I got the part so will write more about that in October. The workshop reading is October 25. I filmed a movie audition, auditioned and made show choir at school, and am preparing for an audition at the opera next week. Not to mention all the homework I've done.

Tommy the Rock Musical with music by THE WHO

I've been busy rehearsing for Tommy at TUTS. Here's an article on SugarlandMom.com

Fort Bend Student to Perform at Zilkha Hall Sept. 10-11

Area resident Sean Hardin will appear in Theatre Under The Stars’ (TUTS) and Humphreys School of Musical Theatre’s production of a young boy’s passage from pain to triumph in the electrifying musical, The Who’s Tommy, based on the 1969 rock opera album Tommy by Pete Townshend.
This presentation, with an all-teen cast of students from Theatre Under The Stars’ Humphreys School of Musical Theatre (HSMT), will feature songs like “Sensation” and “Amazing Journey,” Sept. 10-11, at Zilkha Hall.

Broadway veteran and original The Who’s Tommy cast member, Michael Tapley, directs the show.

Sean Hardin is a 14-year-old student at George Ranch High School. He was last seen at TUTS in the southwest regional premiere of 13 - The Musical as “Archie.” When he is not on stage, Sean works on many volunteer projects to help others. In March, he hosted a benefit concert for Compassion International Haiti Earthquake Relief and raised over $4,000. Sean also recorded an original song titled “Alive” as a part of the Stop Drunk Driving Now campaign for kids.

Sean's mom, Sheri Hardin, said Sean plays the part of The Lover in the TUTS show. Tommy's father and The Lover get in a fight and The Lover is killed, which traumatizes Tommy. Since Sean dies early on, he then becomes part of the ensemble. Sean "loves the music in the show and has learned to play Pinball Wizard on the guitar," Sheri said.

After the TUTS show, Sean will play Robin Hood at the Fort Bend Theatre the first two weekends of October. (He is splitting the role with Giulio Riccio, who will be Robin Hood for the first two weekends of the production.) See our Events Around Town page for information about Robin Hood.

Tickets for The Who’s Tommy are available on-line at www.tuts.com, by phone at (713) 558-8887, outside the Houston area at (888) 558-3882, or in person at the Theatre Under The Stars Box Office, (800 Bagby at Walker, Mon-Fri 10am-6pm, Sat-Sun 11am-4pm). Tickets are available for Sept. 10 at 7:30 p.m. and Sept. 11 at 1:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m.

Colorado Springs

Spent last week in Colorado Springs singing with the adult church choir at the Music Evangelism Foundation Conference. I had no idea the conference was so large. The first night there were about 2,000 people there. They get there early to get a seat so I had to rehearse my solo part in front of about 1,500. Jeanette Clift George from Houston also performed while we were there. That is twice this year I've performed at the same function she has performed at. It's a small world. Thanks to the conference for dinner each night. The food was great! I also got to perform at Focus on the Family and then we took a tour of the building. Other hightlights of the trip included white water rafting, Pike's Peak, Manitou Springs, Cliff Dwellings, Seven Falls, and Glenn Eyrie Castle. It was a busy week but a lot of fun and I heard some good speakers and awesome music.

Disney Open Call

Saturday went to my first Disney Open Call. It was in Austin so got up at 5 AM to get there by 8:30. It started at 9 AM. I was number 459 and later heard they were over 1100. We all did the same monologue and went in groups of 5. No immediate callback but did get asked if I had an agent so at least they talked to me. Finished by 12, talked to a friend awhile and then had lunch on 6th Street so if nothing else got some good pizza out of the drive. Everyone working was super nice and patient. Best line was when one of the workers trying to get auditioners to relax said "Smile and have a good time, afterall we're not saving the world. It's just Disney."

Rick Moncada

Rick Moncada of All Star Planet passed away this week. I had spoken to him Friday night and then he was gone on Tuesday. He had a great quote on his facebook page that said "It is not the path you take but how you travel that path." Rick was good to encourage all 10 All Star Planet finalists. He reminded me I was the lucky one to be the only guy finalist. The email from All Star Planet as to what was I doing for my charity is what got me thinking to host the Kids4Haiti Benefit Concert to raise money for Compassion International Haiti Earthquake Relief. Thanks Rick. Your life touched many others and you traveled your path well.

Six Flags Holiday In the Park

Got to sing at Six Flags December 28 for their Holiday in the Park. It was fun as met some new friends. Have greater respect for concert artists as had to sing two 40minute sets with one 20 minute break in the cold. The capacino sure tasted good at the end. Thanks to those who braved the cold to stop and listen. Here's a link to a Christmas Medley I sang http://www.youtube.com/seanghardi#p/u/0/sWC8ZWYAyT8
